A Message from Newport Historian Peter Ranger

A Message from Newport Historian Peter Ranger

Paul Rushton

No one has done more to preserve the history of Newport IW Football Club than Peter Ranger.

No one has done more to preserve the history of Newport IW Football Club than Peter Ranger.

For many years, Peter has painstakingly researched, recorded and catalogued the club's story, ensuring that generations of players, officials and supporters are remembered.

Much of the historical information that appears on this website and in club publications owes a huge debt to his dedication, patience and remarkable attention to detail.

Many supporters will know Peter as the man who always had an answer when a question arose about Newport's past. Whether it was a player's appearance record, a cup final result from decades ago or details of a long-forgotten season, Pete invariably knew the answer – and usually had the evidence to back it up.

Pete has recently shared the news that he has been diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer and is now using a wheelchair. Despite facing this challenge, he has asked us to pass on his thanks and best wishes to everyone connected with the club.

On behalf of everyone at Newport IW FC, we would like to thank Peter for his extraordinary contribution to the club, and to Island Football over many years. His work has helped preserve our history for future generations and his dedication and support is deeply appreciated by all of us.

We know that many former players, officials and supporters will want to join us in sending Peter and his family our very best wishes.

Thank you, Peter, for everything you have done for Newport IW FC.
