From the outset Newport were on the front foot and after a couple of half chances went begging, Remy Deegan opened the scoring from an Owen Ebbs corner. Newport were moving the ball well and dominating the game, with quick passes and good decision making.

Further goals came when Josh Graham finished another Ebbs assist, followed by a great team move that was finished by Alex McCreath after good work from Jaiden Dudley. A fourth came from another Ebbs corner finished off by Fin Dyer.

The second half started in the same manner, Deegan having a shot saved and Ebbs slotted home. Shortly after Logan Hobbs got a debut goal with another Deegan assist, the move started with good defensive play and a quick passes from Eron Farr-Bishop, who had a great game at right back.

Newport then started to slow down their passing and Vics began to look dangerous on the counter, committing more men forward. Two Vics goals followed in quick succession, and without some good defensive play from Jack Kilby and Jye Lock there could have been more. Newport added a seventh when Ethan Hall chased down the Vics defence and was rewarded with a simple tap in after rounding the keeper.

There was still time for Vics to add a third but a resounding opening day win for the boys nonetheless. For a great deal of the game Newport passed quickly and played some great football, the challenge now is to make that last 80 minutes.
